Rwanda Polytechnic and Ministry of Youth and Arts Initiate talks to improve Creative Industry skills through TVET
Kigali, Rwanda – August 7, 2025 – The Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic, Dr. Sylvie Mucyo, welcomed Hon. Sandrine Umutoni, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Youth and Arts, for high-level talks aimed at strengthening strategic collaboration to advance Rwanda’s Creative Sector through Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The meeting marked a key step toward formalizing a partnership that seeks to equip youth including out-of-school and rural youth—with practical skills, industry-relevant training, and greater access to opportunities within the growing creative economy.
"Talent does not discriminate," noted Min Sandrine. "Through stronger collaboration, we can unlock the potential of youth—including the over 1 million out-of-school and rural youth, regardless of background, by providing access to quality training, and mentorship opportunities."
Central to the talks was a shared commitment to equip youths with practical, job-ready skills and meaningful pathways into the creative economy. They explored how to leverage Rwanda Polytechnic’s infrastructure, expertise and training programs to expand access to training and internships. The explored avenues include strengthening the curriculum to align with industry needs and Artificial Intelligence. Also highlighted was the importance of creating a new generation of creative professionals who are not only skilled but ready to join the academia and also mentor the youth.

Dr. Mucyo underscored the need for concerted efforts and partnerships that are key to addressing barriers such as access to finance that hinder enabling inclusive skills development and of accessible training to youth from all backgrounds. She shared with the delegation more about the projects in the pipeline at Rwanda Polytechnic that will not only enhance the infrastructure but also foster a supportive campus environment that balances skills development with student wellbeing and culture promotion.
This was more than just a courtesy visit, it was an opportunity to showcase the passion, talent and innovation happening within the classrooms, workshops, and communities. In a guided tour, the MoS interacted with faculty at the Department of Creative Arts, and with trainees at the ICT Innovation Center where she got to experience firsthand the practical skills and creativity being nurtured at the college.
The visit reaffirmed a shared vision between Rwanda Polytechnic and the Ministry of Youth to build a skilled, innovative, and self-reliant generation—driven by creativity, entrepreneurship, and inclusive education.
