Four students to represent Rwanda in WorldSkills Africa 2022

Kigali: On 7th October 2021, marked an official closing of National Skills Competition 2021 and four best winners in each trade were identified to represent Rwanda during the WorldSkills Africa competition that is scheduled to take place in Swakopmund, Namibia from 28th March to 2nd April 2022.

Those students are NIZEYIMANA Janvier winner in Welding, NIYIGENA Elie winner in Plumbing and Heating, IRIMASO David winner in Electrical Installation and NDAYISHIMIYE Andre winner in Bricklaying. Among them, three are from at IPRC Kigali and one from IPRC Gishari.

Eng. Pascal Gatabazi, Chief Technical Advisor at the Ministry of Education and Guest of Honor thanked contestants for the National Skills Competition and said the competition is a good time for students to showcase what they have learnt and create the spirt of loving it.  He requested the winners to prepare and represent well the country in the coming competition that will take place in Namibie next year 2022.

The Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic Dr. James Gashumba congratulated the winners and said they are going to increase the consumables and train them to get more practices that will help them to win the Africa Skills Competition as well as the World Skills Competition that will take place in Shanghai, Chine in 2022.

He further expressed that this competition is a good time to enhance hands on-skills and exchange of technical expertise in different fields and this will decrease in the number of recruited staff from abroad. He also added that the competition will be also an opportunity for companies, industries, and trades under PSF to identify skilled personel who can be recruited.

This National Skills Competition  brought together 20 competitors from different TVET Schools and Polytechnics across the country who participated and emerged winners during the provincial selection that was held at IPRC Huye, IPRC Karongi, IPRC Kigali, IPRC Musanze and IPRC Ngoma from 26 to 27th August, 2021.

The best winners were awarded goldon medals and cash prize worth five hundred thousand Rwandan Francs (500,000 Rfw), the second winners in each trade got a Silver medals and Three hundred thousand Rwandan Francs (300,000 Rfw), the Third in each trade got Bronze medals and got Two hundred thousand Rwandan Francs (200,000 Rfw) and all got certificate of participation.
