On this 8th October 2020, the management of Rwanda Polytechnic met with RP Students Leadership Committee RP-SU. The main purpose of the meeting was to inform them about schools reopening plan for IPRCs and then hear and respond to their concerns before schools reopen.
In his welcoming remarks, the Vice Chancellor of Rwanda Polytechnic Dr. James Gashumba thanked RP Students Union representatives for their participations and their contribution in building connection between RP management and students. He reminded them to continue looking after student’s welfare and put efforts on their studies as a shape of their future well-being.
He stated that Rwanda like many other countries faced the global outbreak of Coronavirus (Covid19) and it is not only affecting health, economies … but also the education sector and arises the new way of teaching and learning using online .
Deputy Vice Chancellor in Charge of Trainings, Institutional Development and Research ( DVC-TIDR ) Eng. Rita Mutabazi informed students representatives that based on the announcement from MINEDUC to reopen schools gradually in the mid-October 2020 starting from Universities and Higher Learning Institutions; Rwanda Polytechnic decided to resume studies too starting by all final years students while year 1 and 2 students will continue their studies by using e-learning platform. She reminded them that all IPRCs Students will be accommodated in their respective Colleges to contain the spread of Covid 19 and all services needed by students will be available on the Campus.
Some of the poses questions by RP students Union representatives including bursary disbursement, , hostels payment, Health insurance…, the management requested students to fill in required information as soon as possible to submit to HEC for approval for bursary disbursement. RP managers stated that students will cat for their accommodation in hostels. According to health insurance scheme, RP said that the management will sit together to realize how RP students may have Health Insurance as for UR students.
RP Students representatives requested to remain recalling their colleagues to comply with the guidelines of the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education on Covid-19.
